Jesy Nelson has boldly talked about her difficult pregnancy, which included a procedure that saved her unborn twins’ lives. In her first TV interview after having her daughters, the former Little Mix star talked about the traumatic experience she went through and the unusual disease that put her infants at risk.
A Difficult Pregnancy Journey
Jesy Nelson, 34, and her boyfriend Zion Foster were very happy to find out they were going to have identical twins. But soon after that, their excitement turned to worry when they learned that they had a major medical problem: twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). This uncommon disorder happens when identical twins who share a placenta have blood flow that isn’t even. This could cause serious health problems or even the death of both babies.
Facing the Threat of TTTS
Nelson said that she had been diagnosed with pre-stage TTTS, which meant that she needed to be watched all the time and have scans done often. She said she was worried because her stomach was tightening and she was having trouble breathing. “Every time I went for scans, it got a little worse,” Jesy said, admitting that she was in denial about how bad things were.
Life-Saving Surgery
The singer had a risky operation called fetoscopic laser surgery to cut the blood arteries that connected the twins’ placentas. “It’s clear that this isn’t what we wanted to happen, but it’s necessary because it will give our babies the best chance of living,” she said, clearly upset.

Welcoming the Twins
Even though Jesy and Zion’s pregnancy was hard, they were happy to have their twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, in May. The babies were born too soon, at 31 weeks and five days. The couple and their doctor, Dr. Ruwan Wimalasundera, talked about their experience on “This Morning.”
